One year after it was invented in 1887 Thomas Edison, “The Wizard of Menlo Park,” publicly debuted and demonstrated the very first phonograph record at the Grand Opera House (I believe in Wilmington Delaware, correct me if I’m wrong). Before the public fanfare, Edison had been hyping his new invention with demonstrations at scientific periodicals with an idea to eventually market the contraption and add “DJ culture” to his long list of life-changing inventions. You can read more about the history here.
Twees began their collections shortly thereafter. Interestingly enough, the first song Mr. Edison ever played through his ingenious creation was “Love Train” by the O’Jays. I kid.
